Travel Guidelines for February Break: Letter from President Marsha Joy Sullivan

Dear Nardin Academy Families,

As we look forward to February Break, I hope you and your family enjoy a relaxing week together. Thanks to your commitment to health and safety, Nardin has remained open whenever possible for in-person learning. I commend our students, families, faculty and staff for their efforts and vigilance.

All four schools will be off for February Break from Monday, February 15 through Friday, February 19 and will return to in-person learning on Monday, February 22. With health and safety first in mind, I would like to take this opportunity to remind families that if you are traveling to a non-contiguous state, your child must quarantine before returning to school as per the New York State and Erie County mandates. If your child is required to quarantine due to travel, please contact your principal for information regarding accessing materials during this period.

Travel Guidelines

As per New York State:

For any traveler to New York State from a noncontiguous state, US territory or CDC level 2 and higher country, the new guidelines for travelers to test-out of the mandatory 10-day quarantine are below:

For travelers who were out-of-state for more than 24 hours:

  • Travelers must obtain a test within three days of departure, prior to arrival in New York.
  • The traveler must, upon arrival in New York, quarantine for three days.
  • On day 4 of their quarantine, the traveler must obtain another COVID test. If both tests comes back negative, the traveler may exit quarantine early upon receipt of the second negative diagnostic test.

For travelers who were out-of-state for less than 24 hours:

  • The traveler does not need a test prior to their departure from the other state, and does not need to quarantine upon arrival in New York State.
  • However, the traveler must fill out our traveler form upon entry into New York State, and take a COVID diagnostic test 4 days after their arrival in New York.

If a traveler has had a COVID diagnosis within the past 90 days:

  • There is no need for individuals who have had a COVID diagnosis within the past 90 days to quarantine after having traveled, even if this travel was to a non-contiguous state. Erie County shared this new guidance with our school this week.

The complete guidelines are listed here.

If you have any questions, please contact Clinic Director Hannah Sorge, BS, BN, RN at or call 716.881.6262 x1250. I hope you enjoy your break and we look forward to seeing everyone back in the halls of Nardin after break.

Be well, be safe and God Bless,

Marsha Joy Sullivan
