Dear Nardin Academy Families,
We have had a successful start to the New Year at Nardin Academy and we could not be more grateful for the support of our families and dedication of our faculty and staff. Our students continue to rise to every occasion. With the lifting of Orange and Yellow Zone restrictions, I would like to provide you with an update on procedures and protocols at Nardin.
Lifting of Orange & Yellow Zone Restrictions
We continue to monitor all New York State and Erie County mandates regarding COVID-19 and adapt as needed. This past week, we learned from New York State Governor Andrew M. Cuomo that Buffalo and the surrounding region are no longer in Orange or Yellow micro-clusters. Based on this change, we are no longer required to test randomly a percentage of our school population weekly. Nardin continues to adhere strictly to other health and safety guidelines, including mask wearing, social distancing, temperature checks, daily wellness screenings, handwashing and cleaning protocols. This week, we are pleased that, of the state mandated tests that Nardin administered, one hundred percent of students, faculty and staff tested were negative.
Reporting of Positive COVID cases
Please note, moving forward, we are transitioning our letters regarding positive COVID cases in our school to a weekly dashboard, which will be included in your weekly Sunday email, The Week Ahead.
Any member of our campus Nardin community who receives a positive diagnosis for COVID-19 is asked to notify our Clinic Director Hannah Sorge, BS, BSN, RN. Once we receive this notification, our COVID response team works to identify and notify any students, faculty and/or staff who were in close contact with the infected person. Notified individuals are expected to quarantine as per New York State and Erie County guidelines. If you do not hear from Nardin directly, your child was not in close contact with this person. Hannah can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org or 716.881.6262 x1250.
With February Break around the corner, we also would like to remind our school community of regulations regarding out-of-state travel. As per New York State:
For any traveler to New York State from a noncontiguous state, US territory or CDC level 2 and higher country, the new guidelines for travelers to test-out of the mandatory 10-day quarantine are below:
For travelers who were out-of-state for more than 24 hours:
- Travelers must obtain a test within three days of departure, prior to arrival in New York.
- The traveler must, upon arrival in New York, quarantine for three days.
- On day 4 of their quarantine, the traveler must obtain another COVID test. If both tests comes back negative, the traveler may exit quarantine early upon receipt of the second negative diagnostic test.
For travelers who were out-of-state for less than 24 hours:
- The traveler does not need a test prior to their departure from the other state, and does not need to quarantine upon arrival in New York State.
- However, the traveler must fill out our traveler form upon entry into New York State, and take a COVID diagnostic test 4 days after their arrival in New York.
The complete guidelines are listed here.
New York State designated school faculty and staff members are currently eligible to receive the COVID vaccine. Already, members of Nardin’s faculty and staff have started to receive this vaccination. We look forward to when the vaccine supply meets the demand, meaning more vaccines for all and bringing us one important step closer to a safer Nardin and world community.
As we prepared to re-open school last Fall, we made a promise to communicate regularly as we navigated the uncertainty of the pandemic together. We reaffirm this commitment and continue to work together to keep our community safe and healthy and our school open for in-person learning.
Thank you for your continued support and for your commitment to Nardin Academy.
Be well, be safe and God Bless,
Marsha Joy Sullivan
