Children’s Author & Illustrator Barbara McClintock Visits Nardin

Esteemed children’s author and illustrator Barbara McClintock visited Nardin Academy on Friday to speak with Montessori Kindergarten and Lower School students in the Library. She spoke about her life, showed photos of studio and talked about the inspirations behind her many books.

McClintock has written and illustrated more than fifty children’s classics, including ”Vroom!”, “Nothing Stopped Sophie” and “Adele and Simon.” She is also known for her work with Jim Henson as an illustrator for Fraggle Rock.

During her talks, she engaged students, teachers and parents by choosing individuals to act as art directors and illustrators. The art directors chose animals to draw and then the illustrators got to work drawing them. All the students rallied together to stimulate working on a deadline, counting down from twenty to zero when the work was due.

At the close, McClintock signed books and chatted with attendees. The students loved having her visit and hope she returns soon! She will be at the Western New York Children’s Book Expo at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center on Saturday 10 am – 3 pm.
